Get Your Wedding Worries Sorted Now!
August 14, 2017
We're just going to put it out there - wedding planning is no easy feat. There are lists to comprise, budgets to manage and millions of details that if left unplanned, will leave you feeling less lovely bride and more lunatic beast.
So to save you a little stress we've come up with a few tips to keep you somewhat sane (let's be honest no bride is calm as a cucumber leading up to their wedding day!).
1. Determine what your budget is.... (and more importantly) STICK TO IT!
The starting point in your planning, and the thing that will keep you on track throughout the entire process is to get your wedding finances in check. Weddings cost a pretty penny and you don't want to spend more than planned on your venue and be left with no money to work with on your flowers, dress, invitations etc! At Fashionably Kate Events, we have a budget breakdown that determines exactly what you should be aiming to spend on each factor of your wedding based on your overall budget. Keep yourself in check so you don't face sticker shock once the final invoices come from your vendors.
2. Figure out what your style is -- then keep off of Pinterest!
What colors, style and/or theme do you want? Once you determine your "big picture" (the small details will fall into place once you get into planning) start to distance yourself from Pinterest. While Pinterest is a great inspiration tool, it can leave you feeling overwhelmed and wanting to incorporate hundreds of different elements that just don't work together - think over-the-top formal glam decor in a rustic barn setting. Know what you want and love, trust your style and just go with what you think feels right, not what's "on trend." Once your style is set, look for vendors that share a similar style to yours that can give you the wedding of your dreams - you can determine a vendor's style and work via their Instagram or their portfolio found on their website.
3. Enjoy the process
For real, who wants to spend a whole year+ leading up to their wedding being a complete stressed out mess? This is such an exciting and fun time in your life! Involve your fiancé, friends and family in planning. You know your mom is just dying for you to ask her opinion on that color blue, so ask her! Have sisters or cousins help with smaller tasks that you need help with - we think DIY should actually be DIT (do it together!). Once the big day is over, you may even miss all of the planning!
4. Hire a planner
Shameless plug, we know. But if you already have a full-time job, wedding planning can seem like a burden. If you want someone to manage your expenses, expectations and keep you on track - a planner is the way to go. We especially recommend a planner for a wedding that is held at a place where weddings aren't the norm (think backyard weddings). When your vendors start showing up and there is no venue coordinator there to instruct them on where they need to go or set up, you're looking at a big disaster. Even before the big day, there will be details that the bride may overlook (linens? lighting? oh my!) that a planner is keen on including. Leave the work to us planners and you will not be sorry!
